Jeanie Marie Buss is an American businesswoman. She is the President and controlling owner of Los Angeles Lakers in the National Basketball Association. The California native, Buss grew up in an affluent family. Jerry Buss is her father. He was an estate tycoon, and later the proprietor of Lakers, among other businesses. The emotional strain she felt was exacerbated as her parents divorced in 1972. At 19 years old she joined the family business as the general manager of the Los Angeles Strings professional tennis team. Later, she founded in the Los Angeles Blades, a professional, roller-hockey club. She also served as director of the Great Western Forum before assuming the duties of the vice president for the Lakers. Her father passed away in 2013, and his control over ownership of the Lakers was transferred to Buss and her five siblings by a trust of the family that gave each sibling an equal vote. She assumed the office of president for the Los Angeles Lakers. Buss is also co-founder of Women of Wrestling a pro-wrestling promotion headquartered in Los Angeles.
